NATO CIMIC Functional Specialist Course
About:
The NATO CIMIC Functional Specialist Course (NCFSC) is designed to equip CIMIC Functional Specialists (CIMIC-FS) with the necessary knowledge and skills to support CIMIC staff across all military levels with their specific knowledge and expertise. The course aims to familiarise CIMIC-FS with the basics of the NATO CIMIC doctrine and the contemporary operating environment.
The course provides CIMIC-FS with a profound understanding of NATO CIMIC activities and emphasises the interconnection between CIMIC and different areas of civil expertise. Students, working in small, multinational, and diverse groups, will learn and practice how to contribute with their specific expertise to CIMIC activities. The students will become familiar with working in a military environment and understand their contribution to staff processes and CIMIC products. A low student-to-coach ratio ensures individualised training and support, enhancing the participants’ learning experience.
Subjects of the course:
- Understanding the CIMIC-FS role when supporting CIMIC core activities.
- Demonstrating functional expertise in accordance with NATO CIMIC doctrines.
- Comprehending the working mechanisms of NATO, EU and the UN.
- Experiencing and becoming sensitive to cultural diverse environments.
- Gaining Cross-Cultural Competences for successful intercultural communication.
- Providing functional expertise for analysis’, assessments and reports of the Civil Factors of the Operating Environment.
- Liaising with the required stakeholders needed to give precise functional expertise.
- Advising the commander, staff and CIMIC personnel on particular functional area aspects.
- Contributing to civil-military information sharing.
Prerequisites:
- CIMIC personnel (OR-5 – OF-4) or civilian equivalents.
- Language proficiency: Students must meet the following standards of proficiency in English (as described in STANAG 6001):
Officers: listening – good/3, speaking – good/3, reading – good/3, writing – fair/2 or civilian equivalents.
Non-commissioned officers: listening – good/2, speaking – good/2, reading – good/2, writing – fair/1 or civilian equivalents. - Successful completion of the Advanced Distribution Learning (ADL) modules ADL 037 and ADL 143.
Iterations:
The NCFSC is foreseen to be conducted in 3 iterations per year. The duration is one week.
- 02 June – 06 June. The Hague, The Netherlands.

Tuition fee:
Students from Sponsoring Nations: 225.00 Euro
Students from Non-Sponsoring Nations: 445.00 Euro
NATO CIMIC Functional Specialist Course

As such it may form part of transport, surveys, accommodation and catering plans as well as being used to generate passes or manage your access to areas within the CCOE and the Majoor Jan Linzel Complex (MJLC). If the course or event incurs an online registration fee then elements of this data will be used by the payment management software but are immediately deleted after successful payment.
